Nathan Williams Jarvis
Nathan is a sculptor/print maker from Port Talbot who explores the relation of print and technology by re-use of materials, exploring the relation of art and science, climate change and experimenting on different scales.
He blends the aesthetic of technology with industrial architecture to create cyberpunk settings to look at the post-technology, singularity and dystopian settings.
The work consists of self-portrait, landscape and bio-mechanical elements of the human figure. This is achieved by using building architecture, the human form and cables to illustrate bio-mechanical art when mixed with technology.
These are to question how unimportant new technology is if not told to do anything compared to printing press, which is an old form of technology, and the idea of the importance of climate change to the environment by re-using material.
This piece is an experiment of producing a portrait for the American President. My intent was to captivate his form into a simple carving, which is a wood engraving on end grain of box wood. This is mostly to experiment on recapturing an essence of a working man being a president.
