Bliss Horstead

Bliss Horstead takes inspiration from feminism, exploring how the ‘Male Gaze’ affects women in contemporary society. She also uses personal experiences as a vehicle to explore artistic relationships within different narratives of the self. She creates a range of mixed media work.

Using colours that reminded me of childhood memories, painting in a way that depicts the flows of the ocean, I had a desire to paint in an unrestricted and freeing way, remembering a time in my childhood when I wanted to be a mermaid - this time was simpler and free from politics and adult life.
