Tomos Sparnon

Tomos Sparnon is a mixed media artist, whose work explores the human body differently to others.

His work uses oils (paints/pastels) and other medias to deconstruct the human body and then construct it with only part pieces resembling that of the human form.

“Triptych” was a series of 3 large scale mixed media portraits that went on to be displayed in our show “Changing Perspective since 2016”.

Description about the “Triptych” by Tomos Sparnon:

I believe my latest large self-portraits are as a result of studying the work of different artists. I’m inspired by the construction of Giacometti drawing, the authority of Velazquez’s paintings or Hendrickje Stoffels and the Brutality of William De Kooning’s ‘Woman’ series.

I see my latest works on paper as experimental drawings. I’m trying to get to the core of the human body - trying to go under the skin without deleting it. I hope to convey suggestion, rather than illustration of a human form.”
